History

As most history buffs know, what we now call Kansas was secured by the United States as part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. It was not until 1857 that Dickinson County was founded, and in 1871 the town of Hope became the plan of a group of approximately 40 people.

The town was not incorporated until 1886. During that time, more than 700 people called the area home. The population has continued to fluctuate over the years, but it has always remained under 1,000. A claim to fame for Hope is its now-closed general store which was run by Dwight David Eisenhower’s father, David Jacob Eisenhower.
